Prime Minister Rafik Al Hariri has been bestowed the prestigious Special Citation of the UN-HABITAT Scroll of Honor Award, 2004, for his outstanding and visionary leadership in the post-conflict reconstruction of Lebanon . He deserved the award for his achievements in planning, designing and executing projects, fundraising and restoring peace in Lebanon which has been destroyed in the 16-year civil war. He also made great achievements in urban and infrastructure reconstruction including new road, telecommunication and electricity networks, hospitals and clinics, etc..King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand
His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, was awarded the Scroll of Honour in recognition of His Majesty's outstanding contribution to sustaining habitats and improving the quality of life of the people in cities and communities in Thailand. He was awarded the Scroll of Honour For of his tireless efforts to uplift the lot of the poorest of the poor in Africa. He was also feted a champion of the urban and rural poor in his own country. He has always emphasized in his work on the importance of urban-rural linkages to ensure sustainable development. The King has recently brought to the foreground the links between climate change, natural disasters and their impacts on cities, towns and rural human settlements.
