From Nairobi to Nanjing -  the story begins

His HighnessWinner of the UN 2006 Special Citation of the Habitat Scroll of Honour. His Highness recieved the award at the United Nations in Geneva on the 2nd July 2007. It was presented by the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki-moon for his impressive efforts in uplifting the living standards of all Bahrainis through a concerted focus on poverty alleviation and modernization while preserving the cultural heritage of his country. The Secretary General stated that for over the last quarter of a century Shaikh Khalifa had helped to lift the Kingdom of Bahrain from what was largely a collection of rural villages into a thriving and diversified economy and that it was inspiring to see that this has been done while providing social welfare support and focusing on educational opportunities and jobs for all.

Honorary Doctorate in Humanities for Shaikh Khalifa from Lawrence Tech

honourManama, Bahrain – June 24 2008 President Lewis N. Walker of Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich., awarded an honorary doctoral degree in humanities to His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The Prime Minister was honored for his leading role in establishing a dynamic free market economy and creating the infrastructure for an innovative and socially and environmentally sustainable society.

Films Publications and Exhibitions

In the Autumn of 2008 the Press and Media section of the Prime Minister's Court toured 5 venues in Asia, in 2007 7 venues were used to stage Bahrain Exhibitions. In 2007 the theme was the Milleniumm Development Goals (MDG's), in 2008 the theme choosen illustrated Bahrain's 5000 years of recorded history and its journey into Urbanisation. The Primary purpose was to promote Bahrain, its History, Culture and Heritage.The venues also included the 2008 4th World Urban Forum (WUF4) held at Nanjing in China at which His Highness Shaikh Khalifa presented the trophy to the winners of the Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa Habitat Award  the  “The Green brigade from Burkina Faso and made a key note speach to the delegates assembled at the forum from around the world .
