MANAMA, JUNE 19, (BNA)--PRESS AND PUBLICATION DIRECTOR AT THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION JAMAL DAWOOD REVEALED THAT USING SATELLITE RECEIVERS, INCLUDING DREAM BOX, WAS NOT IN BREACH OF BAHRAINS COPYRIGHT AND NEIGHBORING RIGHTS LAW.

HOWEVER, PROGRAMMING AND DECODING CRYPTIC CHANNELS OF MAJOR COMMERCIAL COMPANIES BY SOME OUTLETS IS A FLAGRANT OFFENCE OF THE LAW THAT NEEDS LEGAL INQUEST, HE ADDED.

IT DEVELOPMENT HAS PUSHED FOR A REVIEW OF NATIONAL LEGISLATIONS TO UPGRADE THEM INCLUDING COPYRIGHT AND NEIGHBORING RIGHTS LAW ISSUED IN DECREE BY LAW 22 FOR THE YEAR 2006 IN ADDITION TO APPROVING INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS SUCH AS THE WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATIONS (WIPO), DAWOOD SAID.

PROTECTING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY IS A PREREQUISITE FOR BAHRAIN TO WOO FOREIGN INVESTMENTS, ENHANCE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND BOOST ITS INVESTMENT AND COMMERCIAL STATUS, HE NOTED, POINTING OUT THAT THE PRESS AND PUBLICATION DIRECTORATE HAD DISTRIBUTED A CIRCULAR ON ALL CONCERNED OUTLETS URGING THEM TO STICK TO THE LAW.
