UoB announces resumption of studies next Sunday

Manama, May 12 (BNA) Students will be back to classes at the University of Bahrain (UoB) starting from next Sunday, May 15, the UoB Board of Trustees has decided in its meeting today which was chaired by Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi.

This semester’s exams have to finish on July 28 at the latest while the new academic year 2011-2012 will start on September 25. The academic staff holiday will begin on August 1, it was revealed.
The students’ resumption of their studies next Sunday will take place according to the following timetable:
Sunday, May 15: Colleges of Engineering, IT and Law.
Tuesday, May 17: Colleges of Business Management, Academic Sciences, Physical Education and Physiotherapy.
Thursday, May 19: Colleges of Literatures, Teachers and Practical Education.
Key issues were discussed at the meeting, which was held at the campus’ meeting hall in Sakhir, including suspension of education on March 13 following the subversive incidents which targeted UoB.
A detailed account was presented by UoB President Dr. Ibrahim Janahi about what happened, steps taken by the university’s administration to rehabilitate damaged buildings and probe committees set up to investigate the incidents.
The Board of Trustees also stressed the need to take the necessary measures to ensure safety at the campus and prevent any disruption of education at the UoB where the government bears %94 of the student’s educational cost while a total of 2700 students are fully exempted from the fees, it was pointed out.
The meeting agreed three new programmes which will be effective starting from next academic year. They are Ph.D in law, Master Degree in Media and Master Degree in Information Technology.
