National Dialogue Details Released

Manama–June21(BNA) The Chairman of Bahrain National Dialogue and Parliament Speaker Mr. Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Dhahrani announced that a defined process has been set to manage the National Dialogue and participants will discuss four main themes.
Mr Al Dhahrani said that 300 invitations had bent sent out, with 37 % assigned for political societies, 36 % for civil and non-governmental organisations, 21 % for opinion leaders and prominent figures within the Kingdom of Bahrain and 6 % for media representation.

The Civil and non-governmental organisations were also covered, with a representation of 12 % for professional societies, 9 % for social societies, 5 % for women societies, 5 % for youth societies, 3 % for the various labour unions and 2 % representation from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The invitees were requested to present their views and suggestions for topics to be discussed by June 23, 2011.

Mr. Al Dhahrani also stated that HM the King’s call for a National Dialogue without any preconditions is geared towards covering all areas of interest to the people of Bahrain, stressing that the process has been tailored to meet such objectives.

The process has been designed to ensure the best management for the Dialogue in order to be able to serve its outcomes, in line with the main objective of bringing different points of view closer to define mutual visions that will further enhance the reform process towards overall development and progress”.

He added. The process involves forwarding the outcomes of the sessions to HM the King, once they are agreed upon by all participating parties. HM the King then gives Royal orders to the executive and legislative authorities to take the necessary action with regard to the outcomes.

The Dialogue’s Chairman has no authority to eliminate any of the topics that have been agreed upon during the sessions. Mr. Al Dhahrani stressed that the Dialogue is aimed at providing an opportunity for a complete transparent discussion of issues.

He encouraged all participating parties to take advantage of this participating in the country’s continuous reform process. The topics of discussion for the dialogue will be divided into four main areas that revolve around political, social, economic and human rights issues.

There will also be a sub-theme covering issues related to expats living in Bahrain, by conducting a forum at the sidelines of the Dialogue. “Expats have always been considered an important component of the Bahraini society as they play a vital role in the progress of this country.” added Al-Dhahrani.

The Dialogue is scheduled to start on the 1st of July, and discussions will be held according to the schedule set.

The National Dialogue represents a great opportunity for all to present their visions that will contribute to shaping the future of the Kingdom. On June 1st 2011, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has appointed the Parliament’s Speaker Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Dhahrani to chair the National Dialogue.

The Chairman of the National Dialogue has issued around 300 invitations for societies and individuals to participate in the dialogue which will start on July 1st, 2011.

The dialogue aims at bringing together the various segments of the Bahraini society to present the people’s views and demands for further reform in the country without any preconditions and with the consensus of all participants. The National Dialogue areas of discussion are expected to revolve around four main areas of discussion that include politics, economy, society and legislative.
