aza, March 14 (BNA) -- Israeli warplanes raided a deserted area in the heart of Gaza city early on Wednesday setting a wood factory alight, Palestinian sources said.
The sources told Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) that F-16 fighter jets unleashed a pair of missiles on the spot, located on Al-Nafaq street, in the center of the city.
The attack caused a huge fire at a warehouse for wood and bamboo furniture. And many nearby houses were damaged.
The sources said firemen had to struggle for two hours to put out raging blazes.
In Israel, a military spokesman said the air raid targeted "bases of sabotage". He added that strike was in retaliation for an earlier Grad rocket attack on Negev, south of Israel, where one person was wounded.
He added that the Palestinians fired a hail of rockets and mortar shells on Israeli targets over the past hours, without causing casualties.
