Washington DC, April 22 (BNA) -- Minister of Finance Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa participated in meetings of the Development Committee and the International Monetary and Financial Committee on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the board of governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund at the World Bank premises in Washington DC.
The final statement of the Development Committee (officially known as the Joint Ministerial Committee of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund Concerned of the Transfer of Real Resources to Developing Countries) pointed to the general perceptive of the global economy as it is still a cause for concern and poor countries still need support.
The Committee welcomed in its statement approaching one of the Millennium's goals to reduce global poverty rates by half by 2015.
But, it also warned of raising food prices and the disastrous side effects of the food security absence especially for children and women, saying that it threatens the process of resolving the issue.
The final statement of the Development Committee said that the global economy is gradually recovering where many important steps have been taken by the Euro Zone countries and the USA economic indicators are improving.
The Development Committee and the International Monetary and Financial Committee will hold their next meeting in October 2012 in Tokyo, Japan.
