Manama, Dec. 20. (BNA) – Deputy Attorney-General Mohammed Salah has stated that the Public Prosecution started investigating into the case lodged by the Cyber Crime Directorate against Youssef Al-Mahafdha for disseminating false information regarding the clashes between the security forces and protestors in the Manama Souq last Monday, December 17th, on his twitter account.
He added that Al-Mahafdha published a picture of a person, whose leg, he claimed, was injured during those clashes, which resulted in protests and acts of sabotage that disrupted security and order on the same day.
Mohammed Salah said the suspect admitted that the picture was published in his twitter account, but denied publishing it by himself and explained that that his twitter account may have been hacked by some sides, whose identity he refused to reveal, who usually used his account to publish whatever news they wanted.
He added that the suspect refused to speak when the Public Prosecution started quizzing him in the presence of his lawyer.
The Public Prosecution remanded the suspect in custody over charges of disseminating false news despite being aware of its negative impacts.
