Government Spokesperson: Cabinet approves various items under UNESCO Convention.

Manama, Sept 15 (BNA): His Royal Highness the Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, has highlighted the importance of the visit by His Majesty the King, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to the People's Republic of China and the anticipated positive political, economic and cultural results, the Official Government Spokesperson, Sameera Rajab, said.
The Cabinet extended its congratulations on the International Day of Democracy and commended the report issued by the General Secretary of the United Nations on Democracy in the World, the official spokesperson said on Sunday following the weekly Cabinet session.

She added that the Cabinet approved various items under the UNESCO Convention.

It approved the protection of intangible cultural heritage adopted in Paris on October 17, 2003 and the protection of underwater cultural heritage.

“With this approval, Bahrain is in line with the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage adopted in Paris on November 12, 2012,” the spokesperson said.

She added that the Cabinet approved the UNESCO Convention on the means of prohibiting and preventing the illicit import, export and transfer of ownership of Cultural Property and the UNESCO Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions.

“With this, Bahrain accedes to the UNESCO Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, adopted in Paris on October 20, 2005,” she said.

“The accession to these conventions will promote Bahrain nationally, regionally, and internationally in the field of heritage conservation in its various forms. It will be an acknowledgement of the Kingdom’s cultural diversity and a protection of its cultural heritage. It also shows support for cooperation with UNESCO.”

The Spokesperson said that the Cabinet endorsed the amendment of some provisions of Law 38/2009 on establishing the National Authority for Organizing Health Professions and Services.

The draft amendment aims to ensure the implementation of the policies for developing healthcare services.

The Cabinet decided to refer the matter to the concerned ministerial committee for further review.

The amendment of the legislation governing websites and means of social networks was also approved and referred to the concerned ministerial committee for further review, the Spokesperson said. The memorandum was presented by the Minister of State for Telecommunications to amend the legislation governing websites and means of social networks.
