HM King Hamad ratifies four laws approved by Parliament

Manama, Feb. 4. (BNA) – His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today ratified four laws that had been approved by the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council, the lower and upper chambers of the bicameral parliament.
Law 1 / 2014 amends Article 214 of the Penal Code of 1976 to stipulate that “a punishment of imprisonment for a period of no less than one year and no more than seven years and a fine of no less than BD1,000 and no more than BD 10,000 will be inflicted upon any person who offends in public the Monarch of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the flag or the national emblem.”
Aggravating circumstances will be applied if the offence occurred in the presence of the King.
Law 2/ 2014 includes the ratification of the Statute of the Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States for the management of emergency situations. In Laws 3 and 4, HM King Hamad ratified the Protocol amending the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income signed in Manama on December 18, 2012 between Bahrain and Brunei Darussalam, and the Agreement on Tax Information Exchange between Bahrain and Canada, signed in Ottawa on June 4, 2013.
