Interior Minister’s Speech on the World Civil Defence Day

Manama, Feb. 28. (BNA) – Marking the World Civil Defence Day, observed across the world on March 1, Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa delivered the following speech:

"Bahrain celebrates with the rest of the world the World Civil Defence Day on March 1 under the theme: 'Towards Secure Community 2014'.

"The theme of the Day represents the ultimate goal of the Civil Defence - to keep the community safe and secure. This occasion is a great opportunity to appreciate the role of Civil Defence personnel, their humane and national-level achievements while protecting lives and property, and their preparedness and efficiency to respond to challenges in the toughest situations with bravery and determination. This has made them a trusted force whose role is appreciated by all children of the nation.

"To empower the Civil Defence to perform its tasks, the Ministry of Interior offers its personnel every support in terms of training and improvement to enable them to achieve the highest level of readiness. In addition, the Civil Defence Department is equipped with the latest technology to enable it to tackle all possible situations. The department also coordinates with other organisations to ensure safety for individuals and establishments.

"Civil Defence teams have been interacting with all by creating awareness and offering training in rescue techniques to promote voluntary work and prepare teams that could assist the official ones in case of any disasters.

"On this day, I express my thanks and appreciation to Civil Defence personnel for their sincerity and sacrifices in providing safety and protection for lives and property. I would like to hail the effort for all those who cooperate with policemen and appreciate their major national contributions


"I wish the best to all."
