Hawar Islands development plan unveiled

Manama, June 16 (BNA): An ambitious programme to set up mega investment projects and turn Hawar islands into a prized tourism destination was unveiled today. Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministerial Committee for Reconstruction and Infrastructure, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa, gave directives to meet the needs of the islands in infrastructure and services for the projects to start.

The Deputy Premier was speaking as he chaired this morning at Gudaibiya Palace the Hawar Planning and Development Committee, in the presence of ministers and senior officials. The planned development scheme follows royal directives from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa to turn Hawar Islands into an attractive investment area, taking into account the need to conserve land and marine wildlife.

The Deputy Premier was updated on the general urban masterplan to develop Northern Dohat in Hawar Islands, covering 1.149 million square metres out of an overall 3.466 million square metres. Representatives of Bahrain Real Estate Investment (Edamah), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), briefed the committee members on details of the project.

The Deputy Premier stressed the strategic importance of the project whose windfall will be benefit the national economic which is in dire need to diversify sources of revenues amid acute fluctuations of oil prices, directing relevant authorities to study ways of financing the ambitious project.
