Manama, Feb. 16 (BNA): Out of its strong belief in the role of youth and their impact on the future of the political process and democratic march in the Kingdom of Bahrain and to activate the role of the largest segment of the Bahraini society and contribute to the preparation of youth leaders, politically qualified and able to participate in public affairs in a sustainable way as well as to disseminate political and human rights awareness and values of citizenship and belonging among young people, the Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD) launched a training programme for university youth.

The programme, which is part of the 2016 package of programmes focuses on instilling the values of patriotism, tolerance and pluralism in the hearts of young people and seeks to invest their energies in the development of political awareness in a sustainable manner.

On this occasion, Dr. Khalifa Al Fadhel member of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Institute for Political Development said the idea of the programme stemmed from the fact that the youth constitute, more than any other group, an important and influential factor in political life as they represent the largest segment of the Bahraini society.

He stressed that the Bahrain Institute for Political Development has cashed in on the energies of the youngsters and placed this among the priorities of this program after having rehabilitated and trained the youth qualitatively on the basis of the values of national loyalty, tolerance and pluralism so as to have a share in spreading sound democratic culture and political development among the various categories of young people in a sustainable manner. "

Al Fadhel pointed out that the work mechanism of the programme is based on training a group of selected young university students from both genders and from all over the Kingdom for a period of four months per year, and then sending them to schools to give awareness lectures about the reform project and the values of citizenship, pluralism, and the foundations of co-existence in a civil society. "Each group will then train the group that follows."

Dr. Khalifa Al Fadhel described the program as being characterized by the multiplicity of its themes which include the political, human rights, leadership and media themes, pointing out that each of these themes includes several awareness lectures on topics such as the values of citizenship and belonging, national loyalty, tolerance, pluralism, the foundations of coexistence, sound democracy and the reform project.

Al Fadhel expressed his optimism about the progress of the programme on the training of the university youth in the field of the preparation of active youth leaders to be capable to continuously contribute to the progress of the community, youth who are imbued with the correct values and principles of the society sought by the reform project which seek to promote national awareness and the values of citizenship among the categories of youth and young people.

It is worth mentioning that after the nomination of the members of the new Board of Trustees under the chairmanship of Ali bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi, the Bahrain Institute for Political Development has announced a rich varied program of events that includes 13 training programmes, 61 workshops, 6 seminars and the Gulf Forum for Political Media.

The BIPD is also to launch 21 new publications and 7 educational short films and implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it had signed with the Ministry of Municipalities and integrate within the priorities of the said programmes.

It is worth mentioning that the Bahrain Institute for Political Development is a national institute aiming primarily to disseminate the culture of democracy, support and establish the concept of sound democratic principles. It was established by Decree No. (39) for the year 2005 and is working to raise the level of political and developmental awareness, promote the political march in Bahrain, increase knowledge among all members of the community and make them aware of the political work and their rights and duties guaranteed by the Constitution and organized by the relevant legislations.
