Manama, Aug 14 (BNA): Northern Governorate's Chief Prosecutor Adnan Fakhro said that the public prosecution has launched investigations into the case of false information disseminated by a lawyer related to the death of a detainee in custody at the Dry Dock on July 30.
A statement by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) issued at that time said that its extensive probe confirmed the death was due to natural causes and there were no criminal suspicion.
However, the lawyer on August 11 told a local newspaper that there were injuries and bruises on the body of the deceased that proved beyond any doubt a criminal suspicion.
The Public Prosecution questioned the lawyer about his statement to the local newspaper and showed him the visual recording and photographs of the body before and after the autopsy, which evidently indicated the lack of injuries or bruises.
It also showed him the report of the forensic doctor which clearly confirmed the absence of injuries or bruises on the body and that the death was the result of a sudden cardiac arrest.
The accused lawyer admitted the information he told the local newspaper was based on claims from other people and that he could not confirm its authenticity. He added that the visual recording and photographs of the body of the deceased before and after the autopsy shown to him during the investigation confirmed the non-existence of injuries or bruises, contrary to his statement to the daily.
The Public Prosecution charged the accused with publicly spreading false information with the intention of influencing the judicial authority in charge of the case. It ordered his release on the guarantee of his residence.
