Arab human rights cooperation stressed

Manama, May 19 (BNA): President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Said bin Mohammed Al-Faihani, received here the Chairman of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights at the Arab League, Dr. Amjad Shamoot, in the presence of the Acting NIHR’s Secretary-General, Dr. Khalifa Al-Fadhel.


NIHR president lauded the strong relations with the Arab League, calling for the need to expand cooperation among Arab countries in the human rights field.

Al-Faihani underlined the kingdom’s keenness on consolidating and protecting human rights for the citizens and expatriates alike, affirming the NIHR’s follow-up on all human rights issues in Bahrain.

Chairman of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights lauded the open political will of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to promote and protect human rights, citing the royal initiative to launch the Arab Court for Human Rights, and the establishment of many human rights mechanisms, including the NIHR.

Acting NIHR’s Secretary-General, Dr. Khalifa Al-Fadhel, stressed the need to shed light on the specificity of the Arab heritage in the international human rights agenda.

The two sides agreed on the need to coordinate the Arab stance towards human rights issues at international gatherings, as well as on the need to train competencies in this field.
