NIHR president, secretary general elected

Manama, Nov. 5 (BNA): Maria Khouri won the presidency election of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) unopposed during the third regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners chaired by Vice President Abdullah Ahmad Al-Durazi.

Khouri expressed appreciation of the commissioners' confidence in her, stressing she will continue working shoulder to shoulder with the General Secretary Dr. Khalifa Al-Fadil to serve citizens and national interests.

Khouri joined the NIHR Board of Commissioners in 2013 to chair the Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee, then the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Committee. She is also a member of the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission, the Standing Committee on the Protection of Victims of Violence of the Judicial and Legal Studies Institute.
She had previously worked for University of Bahrain and Bahrain Radio and TV. She holds a Bachelor in Psychology and Sociology from Northwestern University, USA, and Master of Business Administration from Indiana University, USA.

The Board of Commissioners unanimously confirm Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadhil as the NIHR Secretary General for a period of four years renewable for similar periods, in recognition of his efforts to upgrade the Secretariat work during his tenure as Acting Secretary General.

Dr. Al-Fadhil holds a Bachelor of Laws from University of Bahrain, Master of Public International Law from Leeds University, and a PhD in Law Philosophy from Leeds University, UK.
