Women on the rise
Manama, Oct. 2 (BNA) -- Two women candidates in Bahrain's run-off parliamentary race defeated male competitors on Saturday, becoming the first women in Bahrain history to win contested races for seats in parliament. The two women -- Ibtisam Abdulrahman Hijris Ahmed and Sumaya Abdulrahman Ali Ebrahim AlJowder -- will give women four seats in the new parliament. A third female candidate, Sawsan Hajy Ghaloom Takwy, was declared a victor two weeks ago after her competitors withdrew.
