Manama, Sep. 21 (BNA): The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has praised the contribution of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector to supporting the national economy, noting that the sector accounts for 90% of active institutions in the kingdom.
BCCI also hailed the role played by the SMEs sector in attracting foreign investments, in light of the distinguished geographic location enjoyed by the kingdom as a gateway to the region’s markets.
It pointed out that the SMEs’ sector plays an essential role in global economies, and it is based directly on creativity and innovation.
BCCI valued highly the efforts exerted by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, as well as the constant follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, to boost the vital sector, being among the key sectors supported by the Economic Vision for Bahrain 2030.
BCCI indicated that the flexibility of funding procedures and the provision of the necessary facilities by the supporting institutions, such as the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), the Bahrain Development Bank, Ebdaa Bank and other financing agencies have contributed to the development of the sector, especially as the Bahraini youth play a vital role in its development, with 35% of SMEs’ owners are youth.
BCCI affirmed its keenness to organise workshops, seminars and events to serve the SMEs sector.
