Cairo, June 20 (BNA): Egypt has announced that it has filed a request to the UN Security Council (UNSC), asking it to intervene in the negotiations over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam after the failure of recent negotiations among Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.

Egypt asked the UN Security Council to “affirm the importance of the three countries resuming negotiations in good faith in order to reach a fair and balanced solution to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue”, a statement by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Egypt submitted the request in accordance with Article 35 of the UN Charter, which grants member and non-member countries the power to bring any dispute, or any situation that is likely to endanger international peace and security, to the attention of the Security Council.
