Manama, Apr. 2 (BNA): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, held a phone call with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
Al Zayani congratulated Blinken on his appointment as Secretary of State and expressed aspiration to working together to deepen the relations between both countries and serve their common interests.
He stressed Bahrain's pride in the historical relationship between both countries and peoples spanning more than 120 years.
The minister praised the strength of the Bahraini-American relations and their development in various fields. He conveyed his appreciation of the great contributions by the American community in the Kingdom to enhancing cooperation in various fields.
Al Zayani praised the US strategic role in protecting the security of the region and wished the US official success in leading US diplomacy.
Blinken expressed the US appreciation of the firm cooperation with Bahrain and stressed the Administration's keenness to consolidate relations and promote them to more comprehensive levels to achieve shared interests and maintain regional security.
The Secretary of State affirmed his appreciation of the policy pursued by the Kingdom, based on achieving peace, protecting human rights and promoting sustainable development for prosperity.
He praised Bahrain’s steady success of Bahrain in combating trafficking in persons and noted the Kingdom's efforts to prepare the National Human Rights Plan and invite the US embassy and the United Nations offices in Bahrain to contribute to these efforts.
Blinken said that Bahrain has been an important partner to the United States for many decades and expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s hosting of the Central Naval Forces Command and its prominent role in supporting US efforts to combat terrorism.
He noted the significance of holding the first strategic dialogue between both countries in December 2020 as an important opportunity to achieve wider cooperation in various fields. The two countries have many opportunities to deepen their cooperation, he added.
Blinken also expressed the US backing of the declaration supporting peace and the principles of the Abraham Accords and stressed the US keenness to continue supporting these efforts.
He also shared the US appreciation of Bahrain’s support to the US efforts to reach a political solution to the war in Yemen.
The conversation also covered several other important issues, including strengthening cooperation in various fields, developments in the political and security situations in the region, international efforts being made to address the dangers of the Iranian nuclear program and combating terrorist organizations.
