Foreign Minister holds video conference with First Deputy Speaker, MPs

Manama, Mar. 26 (BNA): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, today held a video Conference with the First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Abdul Nabi Salman, and a number of MPs, including: Falah Hashim, Mamdouh Al-Saleh, and Ahmed Al-Dimistani, with the participation of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa Al Khalifa


The Foreign Minister welcomed the Deputy Speaker and MPs to this meeting, praising the constructive role played by the Council of Representatives in promoting the democratic process in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting the sincere efforts made by members of the Council to serve the interests of citizens.


Abdul Nabi Salman and the members of the Council of Representatives expressed their appreciation for the minister's response to the desire of the members of the Council, praising the efforts made by the esteemed government to contain and prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, and the precautionary measures it has taken and the capabilities and medical staff provided to meet this great challenge.


The Deputy Speaker and MPs conveyed to the Minister the concern of the people about the delay of return of Bahraini citizens in Iran, calling for the need to take the necessary measures to ensure their speedily return to the homeland, expressing their confidence in the government's keenness to address this disturbing issue, and reassuring the people of their return soon.


The Minister stressed that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is keen on the safety of all citizens and that His Majesty's directives stressed the need to take all measures and intensify efforts to evacuate the citizens of the Kingdom wherever they are and facilitate their return to the homeland, as well as provide them with healthcare and maintain safety of all citizens and residents.


He noted the continuous follow-up by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to confront the challenge of the Coronavirus, and to contain and prevent its spread in a way that would contribute to preserving the health and safety of everyone.


He also hailed the national efforts made by Bahrain as one team through full coordination among all the concerned authorities, in accordance with a comprehensive strategic plan implemented by all state ministries and competent agencies.


The minister praised the efforts made by the Bahrain Defence Force, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, the Civil Aviation Affairs, Gulf Air and all the competent agencies, and the continuous work they are doing to face the repercussions of the spread of the Coronavirus, noting the efforts of the medical staff, including doctors, nurses and technicians, and their dedication to performing their national duty.


The Foreign Minister commended the high-level coordination among all the ministries and competent agencies to face this challenge, noting the solidarity, cooperation, responsiveness and commitment shown by the citizens in implementation of the directives and instructions of the relevant authorities, expressing his pride in the large number of volunteers from the homeland who answered the call of duty in these difficult circumstances.


Dr. Al-Zayani stressed the keenness and interest of the leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain to bring back its citizens to the homeland, pointing to the great effort made by the National Committee to return the first and second batches of citizens from Iran, and transferring them to quarantine centres, as well as providing the necessary treatment to those infected with Coronavirus.


This, he said, was thanks to the great efforts made by the Ministry of Health to sign contracts with private airlines, adding that efforts are underway to facilitate the return of the remaining Bahraini citizens from Iran and other countries.


The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the Ministry played an important role in these efforts and worked to facilitate the return of many citizens to the country.


The Ministry gave its directives to the Kingdom's embassies to communicate with Bahraini citizens residing in foreign countries to meet their needs and look after them, in addition to allocating a 24-hour operation room, to receive calls from citizens and answer to their queries, he said.


He said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Health and diplomatic missions abroad to evacuate its citizens who are now in Iran, Iraq, Syria and GCC countries, including Bahraini students studying abroad.


The Ministry also issued guidelines and published them on all conventional and social media, urging citizens to register their data at the Kingdom's embassies abroad and coordinated with diplomatic missions abroad to facilitate the import of medicines and medical devices from the exporting countries.


At the end of the meeting, Abdul Nabi Salman and members of the Council of Representatives expressed their thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for clarifying the government’s efforts to confront Coronavirus.


He stressed the importance of constructive cooperation between the executive and legislative branches in all matters and issues of concern to citizens and expressed the Council’s aspirations to accelerate the return of the rest of the citizens from Iran.
