Riyadh, Aug. 19 (BNA): Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani has welcomed the recently signed Sudan's power-sharing

deal.

This historic agreement ensures security, stability, and peace for Sudanese people and paves the way for meeting their aspirations for living a dignified life of justice, equality, growth and prosperity, the GCC chief said in a press statement on Sunday, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

Dr. Al-Zayani said he is a true believer in the wisdom of Sudanese people and their ability to overcome current challenges and turning a new chapter to build their state and achieve their aspirations. He urged the international community to urgently support Sudan to render the transitional period a real success and move towards stability, peace and welfare.

The ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the protests-led Force for Freedom and Change (FFC) singed Saturday a power-sharing agreement brokered by Ethiopia and the African Union (AU).

The deal, dubbed the Constitutional Declaration, will witness the formation of a 'Sovereign Council,' which will be evenly distributed between civilian and military members but led by army general Abdelfattah Al-Burhan in its initial 21 months.

The Sudanese army removed long-serving President Omar Al-Bashir on April 11 at culmination of protests that broke out on December 19.
