HM King attends endurance race

Manama, Jan. 19 (BNA): His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa has today attended the endurance championship of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) Chief and Al-Khaldia Stables captain His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.
The 120-kilometre race was held at the International Endurance Village, under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, SCYS Chairman, Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President and Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) Honorary Chairman.
HM the King was welcomed on arrival by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, BREEF Chairman and Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) Deputy President HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al-Khalifa and other BREEF members.
HH Shaikh Nasser briefed HM the King about the stages of the 120-kilometre race. HM the King exchanged cordial talks with the 91 participants in the race, hailing the participation of HH Shaikh Khalid.
He lauded the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa to develop the Arabian endurance sport, commending BREEF Chairman and board members for the outstanding organization.
HM the King received at the International Endurance Village the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron and Council of Representatives Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal.
He commended cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Council of Representatives to bolster coordination towards achieving all objectives and aspirations.
HM the King also received a group of students from Bahrain School and their guest students from Vicenza High School in Italy.
HM the King stressed the importance of strengthening fraternal relations between youths and wished them a pleasant stay in Bahrain. 
The students paid tribute to HM the King for welcoming them, hailing their visit to the International Endurance Village. They also extended thanks and gratitude to HH Shaikh Nasser, HH Shaikh Khalid and HH Shaikh Faisal for their gracious welcome.
 HM the King also received Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) chairman Mahmood Al Faraj, who thanked HM the King for supporting the association.
HM the King, the IPU president and the Speaker watched the endurance race during which the contenders displayed their spirit of competition and sport fair play.
He congratulated the winners, hailing their outstanding performance that reflected their intensive training and enabled them to triumph in the endurance race.
HH Shaikh Nasser honoured the winners in the presence of HH Shaikh and HH Shaikh Faisal.
