HM King delivered the following speech:

"In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Your Highnesses, Your Excellencies the ambassadors

We extend a warm welcome to everyone.
We are pleased to start our new year by marking the 50th anniversary of the start of organized diplomatic work. Throughout these prolific years, we have been able to demonstrate to the world the sagacious identity of the Kingdom of Bahrain's foreign policy and its commitment to promoting global solidarity and advancing human security.

Our experiences in this field have demonstrated the ability of Bahraini diplomacy to understand and appreciate fully international requirements and changes and their various challenges.

This has enabled our country to engage in professional and substantive diplomatic commitments in various circumstances, and to formulate external attitudes keen on the public good and on taking into account the right balance between its strategic priorities and international obligations.

This is done without losing sight of the significance of an accurate description of our national development efforts that we continue to boost and whose outstanding achievements are documented in numerous international reports.

Bahrain has also succeeded through its diplomatic work in building a strong network of alliances and international partnerships based on respect for the sovereignty of states, good neighborliness, building bridges of understanding and bringing closer views on all issues.
This confirms that such an approach by our diplomatic relations, based on goodwill, is what we are accustomed to, and we will not give it up, as it is a civilization propensity on which the Bahraini character, cordial and open on the world, has been built.

On this auspicious occasion, we are pleased to express our deep thanks and profound gratitude to the founders of our national diplomatic work and to those following in their footsteps for their determined endeavors to convey Bahrain's confident voice that embodies its positive image and consolidates its foreign policies supporting the world's wellbeing and stability

We look forward to the continuation of development efforts, especially in the areas of capacity advancement, building on experiences and elevating the standards of expertise in diplomatic work.

In this regard, we direct that the Diplomatic Institute be developed by transforming it into a "private academy for diplomatic studies", and that it be named after His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the pioneer of Bahraini diplomacy and one of its first founders credited with its long history, and with sincerity in performance  and excellence in dedication. These are authentic Bahraini characteristics that make us proud and that we hold high and mention with great pride in all forums.

In conclusion, and based on our pride in the achievements of Bahrain's diplomacy and in appreciation of the outstanding efforts of its men and women, we declare January 14, every year, as a special day for the diplomatic corps to celebrate accomplishments in the service of Bahrain and its high status.

Peace, and God's mercy and blessings be upon you."
