Japanese art exhibition opens at Bahrain National Museum

Manama, Sept. 1 (BNA): “The Variation and Autonomy: The Prints of Contemporary Japanese Painters” exhibition was opened today as Bahrain and Japan continue to celebrate the golden jubilee of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

The exhibition at the Bahrain National Museum was opened by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) President Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and Japan’s Ambassador to Bahrain Miyamoto Masayuki.

Diplomats, the media and people interested in cultural affairs in Bahrain attended the event.

The exhibition, curated by Kyoji Takizawa of the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts in Tokyo, presents the works of 10 Japanese artists.

They explored a wide range of artistic possibilities through prints and expanded the range of expression in contemporary art using the print medium in the 1970s as well as reassessing the existing history of contemporary Japanese prints.

Some of the works on show are from internationally acclaimed artists Yayoi Kusama, Masanari Murai, Toshinobu Onosato, Yasukazu Tabuchi, Natsuyuki Nakanishi, Hitoshi Nakazato, Tomoharu Murakami, Naoyoshi Hikosaka, Kosai Hori and Toeko Tatsuno.

The traveling exhibition held in the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Canada and other countries around the world will run in Bahrain until September 26.
