Manama, July 21 (BNA): A malign  tumour weighing around one kilogramme has been removed from the abdomen of a patient in his forties at the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH).
A KHUH multi-disciplinary team led by Consultant General, Laparoscopic and Gastrointestinal Surgeon Dr. Hesham Bakri performed the operation successfully, assisted by Vascular Surgery Consultant Dr. Rani Al Moatex Billah Al Agha and Urology Consultant Professor Zeyad Al Naeb.
The patient, who underwent the four-hour surgey successfully, does not chemotherapy after the operation, which in itself is considered another milestone for the hospital”, said Dr. Bakri.
The National Oncology Council decided to remove the tumor surgically immediately, based on Clinical examinations and CT scans, which showed the presence of an unusual mass in the posterior cavity of the right abdomen.
The biopsy that was taken from the mass showed that the young man had a malignant cancerous tumor (sarcoma), which has extensions of the blood vessels and the posterior muscles of the abdomen, reaching the large intestine.
