Riyadh, June 21 (BNA): Saudi Arabia reiterated support to Egypt in its efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement in Libya, particularly the Cairo Initiative which was announced on June 6th 2020.
The Foreign Ministry voiced the stance, describing the Cairo Initiative as being consistent with all relevant international resolutions, and putting Libya’s national interest first.
“The Saudi Government affirms its solidarity with Cairo in all measures taken to safeguard its security, giving the fact that the security of Egypt is an integral part of the security of the Kingdom and all Arab states”, said the ministry.
It expressed Saudi support to Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s remarks on the right to secure his country’s western borders against terrorism.
It called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and respond to the calls and initiative of President El-Sisi to reach a comprehensive solution that affirms the safety and security of Libyan territories, restores institutions and eliminates terrorism and extremist militias, and puts an end to illegal foreign interventions that fuel terrorism in the region.
