Synergised efforts needed to boost regional security

Amman, Nov. 6 (BNA): Board of Trustees Chairman of Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT) Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa has stressed that attaining the aspired stability in the Middle East requires crystal-clear, tangible and practical procedures in which all participate without exception to achieve a secure and prosperous environment.

Addressing Amman Security Forum, which is organised in Amman by the Arab Institute for Security Studies (ACSIS), Dr. Shaikh Abdullah pointed out the situation in the Middle East where there are calls for calm and regional peace and at the same time a dangerous escalation reflected in the terrorist attacks on commercial and civil carriers and oil facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He added over the last decade the region has undergone changes which led to sectarian and ethnic conflicts, waves of terrorism and an impediment of development schemes. Unfortunately, he added, there are new generations in many countries who are facing many hardships and have grown up in a climate of violence, hatred and revenge.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah underlined the efforts of the Arab countries of moderation to defuse regional crises and prevent threatening international navigation. He pointed out Bahrain's hosting of "Prosperity for Peace" workshop as an initiative for growth, education and a better life for the peoples in the region, including mainly the Palestinian one. He underscored the unwavering stance regarding the Palestinian issue and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the borders of June 4th, 1967, with its capital Eastern Jerusalem. He also pointed out Bahrain's hosting of the Global Maritime Security Conference in October, with the participation of 60m countries, to ensure sea navigation security.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah hailed Riyadh Agreement between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council, which was concluded under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in the presence of Crown Prince, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defence His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He described the agreement as a crucial step to maintain regional security and stability, rally ranks and achieve the aspirations of the Yemeni people. He called for synergized efforts to handle current challenges and tackle differences in a better way. He stressed the need to invest in human beings, considering strategic thought as an effective contributor to positive changes.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah underlined the impact of technological progress in electronic programming, artificial intelligence and technical development on global security, pointing out Bahrain's hosting of Bahrain International Defence and Exhibition Conference (BIDEC 2019) and the allied Military Technology in the Middle East Conference which aimed mainly to work out innovative solutions to ensure regional security and localize military technology. He also shed light on the successful reforms in the Kingdom of Bahrain, spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, pointing out that the kingdom is presenting a model in self-reform as well as fostering democratic practice, community partnership and sustainable development, in line with the Economic Vision 2030.
