Victorious-KHK team shines in Bahrain’s Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship

Manama, Dec. 9 (BNA): Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Victorious-KHK team, led by HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and Kristian Blummenfelt, in clinching the second position in Bahrain’s Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship.

 

1,061 athletes from 77 countries competed in the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship, hosted by the kingdom today.

 

The distinguished performance of HH Shaikh Nasser in the cycling race, HH Shaikh Khalid in the swimming competition and Kristian Blummenfelt in running contributed to the team’s success.

 

HH Shaikh Nasser praised the outstanding results attained thanks to efforts of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad and Kristian Blummenfelt, leading the team to the podium.

 

HH Shaikh Nasser affirmed that the success of the sixth edition of Bahrain’s Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship adds to the kingdom’s rich record of achievements in hosting mega global sports events thanks to its qualified competencies and organisational skills.

 

HH Shaikh Nasser finished the 90.1-km cycling race in two hours, 10 minutes and 42 seconds, while HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad managed to finish the swimming competition in 41 minutes and 34 seconds. Meanwhile, Kristian Blummenfelt sprinted to victory after clocking 1 hour, 8 minutes and 4 seconds.

 

Overall, the Victorious-KHK team finished the tournament in 4 hours, 3 minutes and 19 seconds.

 

Vincent Luis, from the Bahrain Victorious 13 team, won Bahrain’s Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship, just five day after his success in claiming the title of the Clash Daytona triathlon in Florida.

 

Luis finished the overall championship in 3 hours, 38 minutes and two seconds, as he finished swimming in 23 minutes and 6 seconds, cycling in two hours, one minute and 26 seconds, and running in one hour, 9 minutes and 57 seconds.

 

In the women’s competition, Marjolaine Pierré won the race in 4:05:54. Van Coevorden finished second in 4:07:11 and Diederiks was third in 4:07:43.

 

The "Expo", held on the sidelines of the Bahrain Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship, grabbed the spotlight, as visitors toured the exhibition, which contained diverse events and corners for selling special clothes and needs related to the Ironman races.
