Manama, Aug. 17 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s General Rights and Freedoms Committee today held its 15th meeting, under the chairmanship of Dr. Fawzia Said Al-Saleh, in the presence of members Ahmed Sabah Al-Saloom and Dr. Badr Mohammed Adel.

The panel discussed a proposal to deliver a series of lectures on preparing those eligible for alternative penalties.

Supervised by the NIHR and the Interior Ministry, the lectures target individuals benefitting from alternative penalties in order to prepare to engage positively in society, and reintegrate normal life.

The committee also discussed its previous recommendation regarding the preparation of a programme to enhance awareness among voters and citizens on the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections, and the importance of participating in them as a political right.

The panel was also informed about the results of the visit carried out by the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners to the rehabilitation and reformation centres during Ashura Commemoration.
