Manama, Mar. 29(BNA): Companies and traders were urged to control the prices of basic commodities in light of the precautionary measures to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and protect citizens and residents’ safety and health.
Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) reiterated full support to the Government’s strenuous efforts to contain the pandemic, urging traders in particular to assume their responsibilities for the nation.
In a statement today, it affirmed the sufficient of food stocks to meet local demands for months, adding that the import of commodities continue smoothly, with shipments already on their way to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The chamber has already held meetings with traders to get reassured about the strategic stocks of basic commodities and ensure the smooth flow of food imports to supply local markets and meet people’s needs.
It reiterated keenness on following-up the challenges facing the trade sectors in coordination with government departments, particularly the food sector which represents the cornerstone of food security in Bahrain.
The chamber has already set up a committee to assess the repercussions resulting from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to monitor their potential impact on the national economy.
The statement commended the role and quick response of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism to facilitate procedures for the trade sector and mitigate difficulties and obstacles.
