Bahraini-Italian parliamentary cooperation discussed

Manama, Mar. 17 (BNA): Representatives Council Speaker, Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, held a virtual meeting today with Italian Chamber of Deputies President, Roberto Fico. She stressed the kingdom’s keenness, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to boost cooperation with Italy. She praised solid relations between the two friendly countries, pointing out the positive outcome of the visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to Italy in boosting trade and investment cooperation. She also pointed out the signing of many agreements and the opening of Bahrain’s embassy in Rome.


The Representatives Council Speaker underlined the kingdom’s keenness on promoting peace, tolerance, coexistence and pluralism thanks to the vision of HM the King. She pointed out the inauguration of many pioneering civilizational initiatives, including the King Hamad Chair for Interfaith Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence at Sapienza University. She also emphasised continuous parliamentary cooperation between the two friendly countries.


Zainal underscored Bahrain’s rich human rights record in light of the comprehensive development march of HM the King. She stressed that human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain are a main component of the Bahraini society, an approach, a behavior, a culture and a practice. She noted that human rights are guaranteed by the constitution as well as the judicial and legal system. She affirmed the need for communication with official institutions and the representatives of the people in the legislative branch to get informed about Bahrain’s strides in this respect.


The President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies lauded the support accorded by the leadership in both countries to bolstering the Bahraini-Italian relations, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain further growth and prosperity. He also praised the kingdom’s efforts in combating the coronavirus pandemic, hailing the role of the Representatives Council in promoting parliamentary diplomacy.


The Italian Chamber of Deputies President underlined his country’s keenness on boosting cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain, mainly in the economic and investment field. He also pointed out the need to foster bilateral cooperation in the parliamentary and human rights field, stressing the importance of coordinating efforts to ensure security, stability and prosperity as well as fight terrorism and extremism. He also affirmed the need to unify parliamentary efforts in facing the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
